Lucia Cargill, PhD, MSN, PHN, FNP-C

Dr. Cargill, FNP-C is a masters prepared primary care nurse practitioner, FNP certified, and cross-cultural nursing specialist. She studied at Cal State LA, and Cal State Fresno School of Nursing, where she was a psychiatry clinical faculty member. She trained with the UCSF resident faculty in Sequoia CHC and Fresno Regional Medical Center ER. She is an advanced practice specialist in functional and integrative medicine having completed post-graduate training in functional, integrative, regenerative medicine, aesthetics, integrative oncology & psychiatry. She recently had her own psychiatry practice, and enjoyed regenerative medicine.
Dr. Cargill, FNP-C, was graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1984 from University of Northern Colorado. While going to grad school, raising a family, she worked in many nursing rolls, including hospital bedside, women’s health, pediatrics, acute care, gerontology, psychiatric nursing, AIDS & pediatric lead research, community/public health, as DON of 3 homecare companies, and LA hospital case management. She was an advisor to the Town of Brookline Massachusetts, Board of Selectpersons, & DPH on AIDS education and putting condoms in public schools.
As a PhD educated Medical Anthropologist, she specialized in international public health and development at the University of Colorado-Boulder. She had the privilege of writing her dissertation in collaboration with the Harvard Institute for Population Studies. She sat Psychiatric Anthropology seminars in the Dept. of Anthropology, Harvard University, for 3 years with Arthur Kleinman, MD, & colleagues who wrote DSM-3R, and attended Psychiatric Epidemiology at Harvard Countway Library, following which she taught at 11 colleges & universities. In addition, she was a consultant for the World Bank, Johns Hopkins Child Survival Support Project, Harvard School of Public Health at the AIDS Institute with Jonathan Mann, MD, Brandeis University Heller Institute, and for most of the US international non-profit organizations serving developing countries.
She is President of a small 501c3 non-profit called the American Overseas Medical Aid Association. With young Indonesian physicians, she helped build an Indonesian non-profit following the devastating 2004 tsunami, sourcing 5 million dollars used over 5 years to see 500,000 patient visits, rebuild Nias Island and implement numerous social programs.
Her real professional love is patient care, centered on the patient as partner, while working to advance new paradigm medicine, the more complex the better. “Unified, convergent, medical and psychiatric care of patients in a patient centered, advanced, integrative practice environment using the best of functional medicine and new paradigm ideas, scientific therapies and data, advanced labs, herbs and nutrition, energetic and spiritual life interventions, pushing the envelope of health care, is real healing.”
Dr. Cargill, FNP-C, is a Reiki Master, has a 50 year spiritual practice, Subud. She travels widely attending conferences. She enjoyed Aikido and dance performance in the past. Now she sings in the Northern California Love Choir and Freedom Jazz Choir; loves family, music, dancing, swimming, gardening and nature. She has four grown children, one granddaughter, polydactyl kitty, Kee, age 9, and Mickey Heart, a rescued Tibetan Terrier age 3.
